MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's soccer team couldn't maintain its early lead over the visiting Bobcats from the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg on Saturday, as the Gators fell 5-2 at the Robertson Athletic Complex Blue Turf.
Just over six minutes into the contest,
Lilly Noel (Shepherdstown, W.Va./St. James) put the Gators (0-3-1) on the board with her first goal of the 2022 campaign. In a play similar to the one she started for Allegheny's lone score against the University of Mount Union on Wednesday,
Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) earned an assist with a great throw-in. The throw from the right-wing side of the field went untouched on the first bounce and ended up in a perfect spot for Noel to flick into the upper right corner of the net with her left foot.
The early deficit did not deter Pitt-Greensburg's high-energy attack. The Bobcats netted two goals in a span of 66 seconds and took a 2-1 lead into the intermission. Between the 62nd and 75th minute, Pitt-Greensburg (3-2-0) added three more to increase its advantage to 5-1.
The Gators didn't go down without a fight, however. Allegheny recorded seven shots in the final 21 minutes. The first of those seven attempts found the back of the net. After a takeaway in the midfield,
Taylor McKindley (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) fed
Emily Beck (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) with a through ball that put the second-year midfielder in position to fire a shot just over the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Paige John and just under the crossbar.
