MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny College field hockey continued its record-setting start to the 2022 season on Wednesday evening with a 2-0 victory over Juniata College on the Blue Turf at the Robertson Athletic Complex.
With the shutout win, the Gators (4-0) not only extended their streak of consecutive wins to start a season, but Allegheny set a new program record for the longest win streak in the team's young history.Â
The contest was fairly even throughout, as both sides flashed the ability to possess and push the ball towards the goal line. However, Juniata (0-3) couldn't get the ball past Allegheny keeper
Hallie Reiger (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady), who made five saves to lead the Gators to a third-straight shutout.
Ella O'Connor (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) put the Gators ahead by one early in the second quarter. The play began with a penalty corner inserted to
Kinsley Greenlaw (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) at the top of the circle. Greenlaw found
Becca Winton (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle), who connected with O'Connor for a high shot towards the upper right corner of the cage.
Allegheny's second scoring play was nearly identical. On the penalty corner, the ball went from Greenlaw to Winton in the same place inside the circle, but this time, the senior defender fired a hard shot through traffic for a goal of her own.
