GAMBIER, Ohio -- Allegheny College field hockey had its record-setting win streak snapped on Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 loss at Kenyon College in a non-conference contest.
The Gators (4-1), who set program records for the most consecutive wins to start a season and the longest win streak, were held without a goal for the first time in 2022 by Owls (2-2). Although the Allegheny offense was limited to just two shots through the first 30 minutes of action, the Gators picked up the pace tremendously in the second half. They produced a total of 14 shots in the second half and would finish just one shy of the Owls for the entire contest (17-to-16).
While
Becca Winton (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle),
Hana Miller (Willards, Md./Worcester Preparatory School),
Emily Robles (Burlington Township, N.J. / Burlington Township), and company were able to get the ball inside the striking circle, the Gators ran into a strong goalkeeper in Kenyon's Megan Lydon. Lydon played the third and fourth quarters in the cage for the Owls, and the sophomore put up the best numbers of her collegiate career with a career-high seven saves.
Kenyon scored twice in the opening quarter, but
Hallie Reiger (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) quickly recovered. Allegheny's goalie did not allow a goal for the remaining 49:14 and finished with a season-high-tying six saves. Reiger did receive some help from
Molly Miller (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg), who made one defensive save in the second quarter.
