Offense comes alive in 8-0 win over Meredith

FERRUM, Va. – The Allegheny field hockey team won their second straight game to start the season as they defeated Meredith 8-0 in a neutral site game Saturday (Sept. 3).
 
Maya Francisco (Toledo, Ohio/Maumee Valley Country Day School) scored her third goal of the season early in the first half off an assist from Debbie Nalesnik (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional). The game remained 1-0 until early in the second when Francisco struck once again, this time assisted by Ella O'Connor (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township), to make it 2-0. The Gators would end the half with three more goals. Kinsley Greenlaw (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) netted two of those goals while Kelsey Anderson (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) scored the other goal off Nalesnik's second assist.
 
In the third quarter, Hanah Simmons (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) scored her first career goal off a pass from O'Connor. Molly Miller (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) then netted her first career goal, assisted by O'Connor. Anderson closed out the scoring minutes later with her second goal of the day.

  • Francisco scored her third and fourth goals of the season to lead the team.
  • Greenlaw and Anderson scored a pair of goals as well.
  • Simmons and Miller scored their first career goals.
  • O'Connor had a career-high three assists.
  • Nalesnik recorded a career-high two assists.
  • Hallie Reiger (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) earned the win in goal.
  • Heather Amancio (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) played the second half in net, making a save.

  • The eight goal performance tied the team's all-time high.
  • The Gators moved to 2-0 while Meredith fell to 0-1.
  • This was the first meeting between the two teams.

The Gators are back in action Sunday (Sept. 3) as they remain in Virginia to face Ferrum at noon.
