Volleyball defeats Thiel to earn third straight sweep

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team earned their third straight sweep Thursday (Sept. 29) as they defeated Thiel 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-14) at home in nonconference action.
 
The first set was even throughout as it featured seven ties and a pair of lead changes. The Gators eventually won the set 25-22 off a pair of attack errors.
 
The Gators opened the second set by winning the first six points off of Meagan Robare's (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) serves. That lead grew to as much as 11 late in the set en route to a 25-16 win. Allegheny tallied 16 kills in the set, hitting .325.
 
Once again, the Gators got out of the gate fast the in third set behind strong serving. Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) had four aces, Leah Ungashick (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) had two and Alejandra Fernandez (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville) added one as the Gators gained a 12-5 lead. Similar to the second set, the Allegheny advantage grew to double digits as they clinched the match with a 25-14 set win.
 
Inside the Box
  • Emma Chambers (Stoutsville, Ohio/Amanda Clearcreek) led the Gators with nine kills.
  • Cheyenne Wilson (Chico, Calif./Pleasant Valley) and Kendall Crum (Chattanooga, Tenn./Girls Preparatory) had eight kills apiece.
  • Robare had 21 assists while Ungashick had 10.
  • Diaz and Fernandez had four aces apiece.
  • Diaz also led the Gators with 17 dig while Ungashick had 10. Wilson and Fernandez added nine each.
  • The Gators hit .323 for the match.

  • The win moves Allegheny to 10-8 on the year.
  • The Gators are now 25-7 against Thiel in the all-time series.
