GROVE CITY, Pa. -- While the final score may look like many of the results posted by the Allegheny College women's tennis team this fall, the Gators had to earn Wednesday's 9-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win at Grove City College.
For the third time in four conference matches, Allegheny (7-0, 4-0 PAC) swept its conference opponent, but the Wolverines (7-2, 3-1 PAC) kept things interesting while suffering their first PAC loss.
Both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches were won by an 8-5 final score, whereas the top-flighted team of
Ella Swan (Nashville, Tenn./Hume-Fogg Academic) and
Jean-Arlette Legrand (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville School) needed a tiebreak set to notch an 8-7 (1) victory over Emily Ivory and Janel McCray.
Allegheny's fourth singles competitor,
Sabrina Rodriguez (Kissimmee, Fla./Professional and Technical), faced McCray in the closest singles match of the evening. She doubled up McCray to take the lead in the opening set, 6-3, before narrowly capturing the second set, 7-5.
Swan had an easier time dispatching Logan Fuss on the second singles court, 6-0, 6-2. In the No. 1 position,
Katherine Marks (Argyle, Texas/Liberty Christian) won 12 of 14 games played to record a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Ivory.
