ORCHARD PARK. N.Y. -- In their second dual match of the fall season, the Allegheny College men's tennis team bested Division II Daemen University, 4-3, on the indoor courts at the South Towns Tennis Club in Orchard Park, New York.
Playing by the D-II rules, the Gators (2-0) began the match by winning the doubles point thanks to a pair of victories at the first and third positions.
Anton Hedlund (Hovas, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) and
Ethan Carr (King of Prussia, Pa./Harriton) doubled-up the top Daemen (0-2) tandem, 6-3, before
Evan Nelson (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) and
Will Jarvie (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) defeated Adam Pasierb and Jayven Williamson, 6-2.
Singles matches were split, with the Gators earning points in the first, second, and sixth positions in the lineup. Trailing 2-1 in the match, Hedlund beat Alex Lumanog in the No. 1 match, 6-4, 6-1, to even the score. Allegheny then took the lead when Carr won his second singles battle against Luis de Vuyst, 7-6 (6), 6-1.
The deciding match was won by
Julien Voisey (Tokyo, Japan/ES International School) in the sixth spot. He battled Daemen's Andy Gibson in both sets, but came out on top, 6-4, 6-4, which secured Allegheny's fourth point.
