Worship Surpasses 200 Yards on the Ground in Victory vs. Waynesburg

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Senior tailback Tre Worship (East Cleveland, Ohio/Shaw) ran for a career-high 201 yards and a pair of scores to guide the Allegheny College football team to a 31-15 win over Waynesburg University on Saturday afternoon.

To the delight of the over 4,200 fans in attendance at Frank B. Fuhrer Field on Blue & Gold Weekend, the Gators (2-2, 1-1 PAC) earned their first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory in their first home PAC game since the 1983 season.

Looking to rebound after scoring a season-low 14 points last weekend at Westminster College, the Allegheny offense relied heavily on Worship and the ground game. In total, the Gators ran for 304 yards and three touchdowns against the Yellow Jackets (2-2, 1-1 PAC). Worship is the first Gator back to produce over 200 rushing yards since Mario Tarquinio carried for 252 yards in a 49-38 win against Kenyon College on October 14, 2006. His longest gain of the day was the first play of the third quarter, a 54-yard carry through the heart of the Waynesburg defense.

First-year receiver Levi Swartz (Greenville, Pa./Greenville), who took a kickoff return 89 yards for a touchdown last week, continued to flash big-play potential. Leading 10-7 in the second quarter, Jack Johnson (Hingham, Mass./Hingham/Milford Academy) connected with the speedy rookie for a 63-yard score on a play-action bootleg to the left. The pitch-and-catch was the longest play of the afternoon for either team.
