Football Falls to Washington & Jefferson on the Road

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Allegheny College outscored Washington and Jefferson College in the second half, but a red-hot start in the first two quarters led the Presidents to a 66-14 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Cameron Stadium.

Washington and Jefferson (4-1, 2-1 PAC) scored 21 points in the first quarter and 35 in the second to take a comfortable lead. The Presidents marched the distance on their first five possessions in the first half and returned two Allegheny (2-3, 1-2 PAC) interceptions for touchdowns, as the Gators struggled to find their rhythm offensively.

Although the game was all but decided after the first 30 minutes, Allegheny finished the last 30 minutes with an all-around better performance. After the halftime break, the Gators returned from the locker room and drove 75 yards on five plays for their first points of the afternoon. Facing a third-and-4, quarterback Jack Johnson (Hingham, Mass./Hingham/Milford Academy) connected with second-year receiver Jaden Debevec (Painesville, Ohio/Thomas W. Harvey) for a 59-yard touchdown. In the fourth quarter, Zach Williams (Reedsville, Pa./Mifflin County) blocked a W&J punt to set up the Allegheny offense with a short field. John Ian Duron (Coral Springs, Fla./J.P. Taravella) ran for all 12 yards needed to reach the end zone, as the Gators outscored the Presidents, 14-10, in the second half.
