Men's Soccer ties with Bethany to open PAC play

BETHANY, W.V. – The Allegheny men's soccer team played their first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match since 1983, drawing with Bethany, 2-2, Tuesday (Sept. 20).

After a scoreless first half, the Gators got on the board. Cliff Weaver (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) found the back of the net off an assist by Tighe Raymond (Washington, D.C./Dematha Catholic) in the 56th minute. However, Bethany responded a pair of goals in the 69th and 70th minute. 

The Bethany lead was short lived as Cam Kaminski (Bowling Green, Ohio/Maumee Valley Country Day) evened the score in the 76th minute, converting a penalty kick.

Each side had chances down the stretch, but neither were able to convert as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Inside the box

  • Weaver scored off a Raymond assist in the 56th minute for the game's first goal.

  • Kaminski converted a penalty kick in the 76th minute to tie the match at two.

  • Gabe Anthony (Tarentum, Pa./Highlands) finished the game with seven saves.

  • Bethany owned a 23-14 shot advantage, though the Gators put more on target (10-9).

  • The Gators moved to 1-4-1 on the season and 3-14-3 all-time against Bethany.

  • Weaver's goal was his fourth of the season, which leads the Gators.

  • Kaminski's goal was his second of the year.

  • The assist by Raymond was the first in his career.
