Women's Soccer Settles For 2-2 Draw vs. Penn State Behrend

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- A two-goal second-half lead was not enough for the Allegheny College women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon, as the Gators settled for a 2-2 draw against Penn State Behrend on the Blue Turf at the Robertson Athletic Complex.

Allegheny (0-4-2) played to a tie for the second time in the young 2022 campaign against the Lions (1-4-1).

In the 42nd minute, Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) punched home a long pass from Elle Carpenter (Waco, Texas/Midway) on a set piece. The free kick was taken from inside the midfield stripe and was misplayed by the Behrend goalie, who charged off her line to clear the ball but left the net wide open.

In the 49th minute, Julieta Schworm (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) raced around her defender and down the left side of the field. The junior striker eventually found enough room to fire a shot from inside the box and beat a diving keeper.

Penn State Behrend possessed the ball well throughout much of the contest, but that didn't lead to any goals until the 61st minute. The Lions, who finished with a 14-to-3 advantage in shots in the second half, scored two unanswered goals in the 61st and 69th minutes to secure the draw.

Inside the Box
  • Penn State Behrend finished with twice as many shots on goal, 8-to-4.
  • The Lions also had a large lead in corner kicks, 9-to-1.
  • Miller and Schworm each netted one goal for the Gators.
  • Kari May (Erie, Pa./McDowell) ended the match with six saves.

News and Notes
  • Miller's goal marked her first of the season and the third of her collegiate career.
  • Schworm tallied her second goal of the 2022 campaign.
  • Saturday's draw is the fourth in the all-time series against Penn State Behrend.
