Freshmen Highlight Football's Loss at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Allegheny College's first official Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) football game since 1983 was held under the lights at Westminster College on Saturday,

The Titans (2-1) renewed the historic rivalry between the two opponents, which have competed 55 times previously before Saturday, with a 42-14 victory over the Gators (1-2).

Two first-year standouts highlighted Allegheny's performance against the Titans, as Levi Swartz (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) and Antwan Brown (Youngstown, Ohio/Warren JFK) both found the end zone on Saturday night. Following Westminster's third touchdown In the second quarter, Swartz took the ensuing kickoff to the house for an 89-yard return.

In the fourth, Brown ran for a 41-yard touchdown on the longest rushing attempt by a Gator this season. Brown averaged 12.6 yards per rush and paced all Allegheny runners with 63 yards.

Inside the Box
  • The Westminster offense outgained Allegheny in total yards, 550-to-255.
  • The Gators converted 4-of-14 (28.6%) of their third downs.
  • Brown carried the ball five times for a team-high 63 yards.
  • Ian Durci (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) finished with a game-high eight catches for 68 yards.
  • Jack Johnson (Hingham, Mass./Hingham/Milford Academy) completed 16-of-28 passes (57.1%) for 122 yards through the air.
  • Defensively, Hudson Alread (Victor, N.Y./Victor) posted an interception for the second consecutive week.
  • Zach Williams (Reedsville, Pa./Mifflin County) and JonMarc Crawford (Guilford, N.Y./Sidney) each had one sack.

News and Notes
  • Swartz is the first Allegheny player to return a kickoff for a touchdown since Johnathan Opet ran one back 85 yards against Denison University on November 9, 2013.
  • Brown's 41-yard run is the longest by a Gator so far in 2022.
  • With his second touchdown run, Brown is now tied for the team lead.
  • Durci's eight catches are a single-game career-high for the second-year receiver.
  • Alread, who did not pick off a pass in the first 21 games of his collegiate career, now has an interception in each of the last two games.

Allegheny will host its first home conference game since returning to the PAC when it welcomes Waynesburg University to Frank B. Fuhrer Field at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, as part of Blue and Gold Weekend on campus.
