Men's Soccer Rolls La Roche For First Win of 2022

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's soccer team broke out in a big way on Wednesday night on Frank B. Fuhrer Field with a 6-1 victory over La Roche University.

Allegheny (1-3-0) notched its first win of the 2022 campaign with season-highs in every statistical category, including goals (6), assists (4), shots (32), and shots on goal (15). The one goal allowed, which La Roche (0-3-1) scored on a second-half penalty kick, is also a season-low for the Gator defense.

The win also marks a significant milestone for Allegheny alumnus John Lichina '14, who collected his first victory as the Gators' interim head coach.

The Gators scored early and often on the turf pitch at Fuhrer Field. Cliff Weaver (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) needed less than two minutes to rifle a long shot from approximately 25 yards out over the extended arms of a leaping La Roche keeper.

Brady Napoleon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon), Henry Rosenberg (Pittsburgh, Pa./Allderdice), Shane Lisman (Mars, Pa./Mars), and Graham Kralic (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside) each provided first-half tallies to extend Allegheny's lead to 5-0. In the 51st minute, Lisman slid a through ball into the box, and Weaver deposited his second goal despite being dragged down by a defender.

Inside the Box
  • Allegheny recorded more shots (32-to-9) and more corner kicks (5-to-2).

  • Gunnar Brettell (Steubenville, Ohio/Indian Creek) and Colin Elder (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) also earned a point with one assist against the Redhawks.
  • Gabe Anthony (Tarentum, Pa./Highlands) received the win with over 60 minutes in goal before being relieved by first-year goalie Caleb Kendra (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside).
