Men's Soccer Falls in 2022 Opener at Nazareth

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Allegheny College men's soccer team opened the 2022 campaign on the wrong end of a 7-2 decision on the road Thursday evening against Nazareth College in Rochester, New York.

While the Golden Flyers held a large lead in total shots, 30-to-16, the margin for shots on goal was much smaller at 15-to-11. Naz only had one additional corner kick and led the Gators in that category, 6-to-5.

The two sides battled out a fairly even first half. Although Nazareth's Cuneyt Vardar netted two of his game-high three tallies in the first seven minutes, Cam Kaminski (Bowling Green, Ohio | Maumee Valley Country Day) buried his first of the season in the 11th minute to slice the lead in half, 2-1. Vardar completed his hat trick in the 14th minute, before Cliff Weaver (Silver Spring, Md. | Albert Einstein) connected with Gunnar Brettell (Steubenville, Ohio | Indian Creek) in the 33rd minute to bring the Gators back within one, 3-2.

In the second half, the host Golden Flyers pieced together a four-goal run with four different scorers to put the game out of Allegheny's reach.
