Gators return to winning ways, take down Fredonia 16-5

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's lacrosse team returned to its winning ways by taking down Fredonia, 16-5, at home on the Robertson Blue Turf in nonconference action.

Senna Perelman (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) and Grace Baginski (Lakeville, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) found the back of the net in the opening minute of play. Perelman tallied two more goals in the quarter, and Maddie Miller (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) scored as well to give the Gators a 5-0 lead after one period.

Allegheny added six goals in the second quarter, though the Blue Devils scored three of their own. Perelman scored her fourth and fifth goals of the game while assisting on a Devin Gaffney (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) tally. Gaffney assisted an Emily Herrold (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) goal while Lauren Petrarca (Simi Valley, Calif./Royal) found paydirt as well.

A 5-2 advantage in the second half saw two goals by Perelman and one apiece from Gaffney, Herrold and Baginski.

Perelman established a new career high with seven goals and matched her career best from a season ago with eight points. The seven goals were the most by a Gator since Alex Zielinski posted seven of her own against Washington & Jefferson on March 2, 2019. Gaffney finished with four points, adding two assists to her two goals.

Sarah Thorman (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) picked up the win in net, making five saves. She also led the team with five ground balls. Herrold added four ground balls, with Mary Allen (Victor, N.Y./Victor) and Ema Caregein (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton La Salle) collecting three each. Allen caused a match-best four turnovers, with Petrarca, Liz Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) and Zoe Bell (Petaluma, Calif./Casa Grande) all forcing a pair of turnovers.

The Gators close out nonconference play at Grove City at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 9.
