Men's Lacrosse scores early and often in 21-6 win over Thiel

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Allegheny raced out to a 12-2 halftime lead and never looked back in a 21-6 home win against future Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Thiel.

The 21 goals mark the second most single-game total in the young history of the program. The record of 23 was established last year against Hiram.

Benjamin Gallegos (Lafayette, Colo./Dawson School) netted four goals (five points) in the first half alone, joined by Jack Cushwa (Martinsburg, W. Va./Martinsburg) with two goals and three points, plus six Gators that each posted one goal.

The Gators added nine more goals in the second half. Gallegos scored one in the second half to add to his total. Ryan Therkorn (Falls Church, Va./George C. Marshall) scored a hat trick in the fourth quarter while CT Graniel (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) had two second half goals.

For the game, Gallegos tallied a career-high with seven points on five goals and two assists. Pete Schellbach (New York, N.Y./Salisbury School) had a career-high five points on three goals, two assists. Cushwa and Graniel had two goals, two assists apiece. Nicholas Cimillo (Palm Harbor, Fla./East Lake), Nick Gralewski (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) and Harrison Seabold (Silver Spring, Md./Barrie) had a goal and an assist each. Colin Deubell (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) added a goal, while Dillon D'Amato (Tolland, Conn./Tolland), Konrad Homiak (Hampstead, N.C./Topsail) and Graham Nash (Innisfil, Ont./Nantyr Shores) had an assist each.

Overall, the Gators outshot the Tomcats 56-27.

Defensively, Ryan Mantione (East Northport, N.Y./John Glenn) caused a team-high four turnovers. D'Amato, Cassady Bouthet (Vernon, Conn./Rockville) and Tim Wallis (Shady Side, Md./Southern) each caused three as the Gators combined for 16 in the game. Wallis led the team with six ground balls while Shellbach had five. 

Eric Mirkovich (York, Pa./York Central) picked up the win in net, making three saves while splitting time with David Kratzenberg (Latrobe, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic), who also made three stops. 

The Gators won 17-of-29 face-offs. Therkorn won nine while Anthony DeMarco (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) won eight.

With nonconference play now officially completed for the year, the Gators will focus on North Coast Athletic Conference competition the rest of the way, beginning on Saturday, April 9 at 1 p.m. against Ohio Wesleyan at Frank B. Fuhrer Field.
