Allegheny fights past Wabash, 10-8, for road NCAC win

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – In the first-ever match-up against Wabash, the Allegheny men's lacrosse team hit the road to earn a 10-8 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) win.

After one period of play, the Gators held a 5-3 lead over the Little Giants and rallied from a Wabash push to take a 7-6 lead into halftime. Through 45 minutes, Allegheny held an 8-7 advantage heading into the final frame. A 2-1 margin in the fourth gave the Gators the road victory.

Both Aidan D'Amato (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) and Jack Cushwa (Martinsburg, W. Va./Martinsburg) recorded hat tricks in the win. CT Graniel (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) led the team in points with four, notching a pair of goals and helping out on two others. Additionally, Nick Gralewski (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) and Pete Schellbach (New York, N.Y./Salisbury School) found the back of the net once each.

Graniel tied with Dillon D'Amato (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) for the team lead with three caused turnovers. Cassady Bouthet (Vernon, Conn./Rockville) paced Allegheny by picking up four ground balls, edging the three apiece from Aidan D'Amato, Ryan Therkorn (Falls Church, Va./George C. Marshall) and Tim Wallis (Shady Side, Md./Southern).

Eric Mirkovich (York, Pa./York Central) earned the win in goal, making eight saves on the afternoon.

Thanks to a 23-10 lead in the second half, Allegheny out-shot Wabash, 40-26. The Gators also committed fewer turnovers, 26-19, and were successful on 21-of-22 clear attempts, while holding the Little Giants to 14-of-20.

Allegheny returns home to conclude the nonconference portion of the 2022 season when it hosts Thiel on Frank B. Fuhrer Field at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6.
