MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team swept Oberlin Saturday (April 16) in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action.
The Gators captured game one 9-1 and game two 6-5.
Game One – Allegheny 9, Oberlin 1 (5 innings)
After Oberlin scored in the top of the first,
Paige Ziggas (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) and
Hadley Horensky (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic) earned walks to start the bottom of the frame.
Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) singled up the middle to score Ziggas.
Joplin Osgood (Coudersport, Pa./Coudersport) followed up with a RBI single through the left side, scoring Horensky to give the Gators a 2-1 lead.
A walk to
Aleya Belardinelli (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) and singles by Ziggas and Horensky loaded the bases for the Gators in the second.
Cameron Long (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) singled through the left side to score Belardinelli. Genareo followed up with a single up the middle which plated Ziggas and Horensky.
Sophia Godzak (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) hit a sacrifice fly which brought Long home to make it 6-1.
Anna Castlevetere (Clarence, N.Y./Nardin Academy) led off the third with a double off the top of the center field fence. After Belardinelli reached on an error, Ziggas hit the Gators' second double of the inning, clearing the bases, making it 8-1.
Horensky reached safely in the bottom of the fifth via a fielding error. With two outs, Osgood doubled to center field, scoring Horesnky and ending the game.
Genareo led the Gators with three RBI on two hits. Ziggas and Osgood had two hits and two RBI each. Long and Godzak also drove runs in.
Belardinelli earned the pitching decision, striking out four.
Game Two – Allegheny 6, Oberlin 5
Ziggas started the game with a single for the Gators and was later brought home on a Genareo RBI single.
Oberlin scored one run in the second and third innings as they took a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Ziggas led off with a double down the left field line and Horenssky singled. Genareo then blasted a three-run home run over the left field fence to give the Gators the lead once again, 4-2. Later in the inning,
Eva Dillaman (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) drove in Osgood with a double, extending the lead to 5-2.
In the sixth inning, Oberlin plated three runs to tie the game once again.
After holding Oberlin off the board in the top of the seventh, Genareo doubled with one out in the bottom of the frame. Hallie Book (Wexford, Pa./North Catholic) entered as a pinch runner and moved to third on an Osgood single to shallow center. Godzak came through in the clutch, hitting the walk-off single to right field, scoring Book for the 6-5 win.
Genareo led the Gators with four RBI on three hits. Osgood also had three hits while Ziggas also had a multi-hit game. Godzak and Dillaman delivered a RBI each.
Jordan Williams (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) earned the win in relief, tossing the final 1.2 innings.
The Gators are back in action Wednesday (April 20) when they travel to Wooster for a NCAC twinbill.
