HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Allegheny women's tennis defeated Hollins 9-0 on Monday (March 21) in the first matchup over its spring break trip in South Carolina.
In singles competition,
Noelle Kidd (Broadview Heights, Ohio/North Royalton) and
Jean-Arlette Legrand (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkland School) each won their matches 6-0, 6-0.
Sabrina Rodriguez (Kissimmee, Fla./Professional and Technical High School) yielded just one game loss, whereas
Ella Swan (Nashville, Tenn./Hume-Fogg Academic) and
Katherine Stancil (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) went 6-1, 6-1, respectively. Allegheny's closest battle occurred with
Katherine Marks (Argyle, Texas/Liberty Christian), who fell in the 4-6 to open the contest, but rebounded the next game with a 6-2 win, and won the final tiebreaker set 10-2.
In doubles action, Swan and Legrand teamed up for a perfect 8-0 victory, while the pair of Marks and Stancil shut down Hollins' second doubles team. Meanwhile, Rodriguez and
Allison Riley (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) won eight out of their nine games, respectively.
Allegheny returns tomorrow, Tuesday, March 22 against Union for a 1:30 p.m. start.
