Perelman scores six goals as Gators best John Carroll, 12-9

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Allegheny women's lacrosse team won their second straight game to start the 2022 season as they defeated John Carroll 12-9 on the road Wednesday (March 2).
 
After the Blue Streaks scored the opening goal of the contest, Senna Perelman (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) tied the game on a free-position shot, which proved to be the last goal of the opening frame.
 
Once again, John Carroll scored the first goal of the quarter, which was once again met by a Perelman tally. The ensuing two goals were scored by the Blue Streaks as they jumped ahead 4-2. With just over three minutes to go in the first half, Perelman notched her third goal, off a free-position, to cut the lead to one. In the final minute, Devin Gaffney (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) tied the game on another free-position opportunity.
 
The back-and-forth play trickled into the third quarter as the Gators outscored the Blue Streaks 6-4. Perelman added three more goals in the frame while Lauren Petrarca (Simi Valley, Calif./Royal), Kennedy Kyle (Seven Fields, Pa./Seneca Valley) and Maddie Miller (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) also found the back of the net in the 15 minute span as Allegheny took a 10-8 lead into the final frame.
 
Petrarca tallied a pair of goals in the fourth quarter to complete her hat trick as the Gators secured the nonconference win.
 
Perelman finished the game with a career-high six goals. In addition to the six goals, Perelman added eight draw controls, three caused turnovers and three groundballs. Petrarca finished with three goals while Miller, Gaffney and Kyle contributed one apiece. 
 
Ashley Amato (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) tied Perelman with a team-high three caused turnovers while Daffney, Molly Wojcik (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) and Liz Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) had two apiece. Amato and Wojcik led the team with four groundballs each. 
 
In net, Sarah Thorman (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) collected the win, making three saves.
 
Allegheny was successful on 32-of-35 clear opportunities.  They also combined to cause 17 turnovers and collected 22 groundballs.
 
The Gators are back on the road Saturday (March 5) when they travel to Buffalo State for a 1 pm start.
