BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Allegheny women's lacrosse team earned its third consecutive nonconference victory to open the 2022 season by defeating Buffalo State 17-3 on Saturday (March 5).

Allegheny set the tone early as Senna Perelman (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights), Devin Gaffney (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) and Emily Herrold (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) within the first eight minutes of the game. Grace Baginski (Lakeville, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) and Perelman both achieved the hat trick with the former pacing the team with four goals. Meanwhile, Herrold and Lauren Petrarca (Simi Valley, Calif./Royal) each hit the back of the net twice.

The Gators also successfully found the cage as Maddie Miller (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), Kennedy Kyle (Seven Fields, Pa./Seneca Valley), Jenna Cassani (Belgrade, Maine/Messalonskee), Ashley Amato (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) and Ema Caragein (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton La Salle) each scored.

Another contributor included Liz Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton), who picked up two assists. Additionally, Herrold and Miller scooped up four ground balls apiece.

Defensively, Herrold led the Gators with two caused turnovers. Furthermore, goalkeeper Sarah Thorman (Ellicott City, MD./Centennial) had a sparkling 62.5 save percentage and held Buffalo State to three goals on the day.

Overall, Allegheny outmaneuvered Buffalo State in draw controls 13-10 and ground balls 26-17 to receive it's largest win since the women's lacrosse team's 18-3 victory at Hiram on April 25, 2019.

Allegheny heads back home for its first home matchup of the season against Thiel on Tuesday, March 8. The contest is slated for a 5:30 p.m. start.
