By Adam Cohen, Athletic Communications Assistant

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny baseball team notched its second shutout in the last three games en route to a 7-0 nonconference victory over John Carroll on Wednesday (March 16).

The Gators got on the board in the bottom of the second. Jake Stotsky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a wild pitch. Brady Nolin (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) then singled through the left side of the infield, bringing Stotsky around for the first run of the game.

The next inning, Ryan Dougherty (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) was hit by a pitch, and stole second. After moving to third on a groundout, Jacob Budnar (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) moved the speedy sophomore across home on a sacrifice fly, making it 2-0.

Allegheny picked up an insurance run in the sixth Budnar led off with a bunt single, and Tyson Bryant-Dawson (Oakland, Calif./Manvel) belted a double to deep left to bring Budnar around for the third run.

The Gators broke the game open in the seventh. Nolin led off with a single and was eventually brought around off the bat of a pinch-hitting Sullivan Schueltz (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley). Bryant-Dawson drove in Dougherty with an RBI single. Brett Heckert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) kept the offense rolling with a double off the center-field fence, scoring Schueltz and Bryant-Dawson to make it 7-0.

Bobby Kusinsky (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) collected his third win of the season on the mound. Allowing just two hits and walking no one, he struck out a career high 10 batters. Mark Schweickert (Glen Allen, Va./John Randolph Tucker) followed suit with two scoreless frames to seal the win.

The Gators will return to action to host Waynesburg in a nonconference doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 17. The double dip was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was pushed up two days due to the weather forecast.
