Houghton, N.Y -- The Allegheny baseball team split a pair of seven-inning nonconference games at Houghton on Friday (March 11). The Gators took down the Highlanders 16-0 in game one but fell 6-5 in game two.
Â
Allegheny put together its largest offensive outburst since an 18-9 rout over Kenyon on May 1, 2019. While nearly every starter contributed to the win,
Tyson Bryant-Dawson (Oakland, Calif./Manvel) and
Ben Kosbie (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) stood out in the victory. In Bryant-Dawson's first collegiate start, he belted a two-run homer — the first one hit by a Gator this season. He also went 3-3 with three RBI and three runs scored. Meanwhile, Kosbie was perfect at the plate with a 5-5 effort, including a bases-clearing double. He added four RBI and three runs to the Friday matinee as well.
Â
Other contributors included
Brett Heckert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and
Jonathan Sharp (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) who both contributed two runs batted in and two hits with the latter picking up a two-bagger. Additionally,
Jacob Budnar (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) stole a pair of bases and he along with Heckert each had three runs scored.
Brayden Cartwright (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) and
Mark Schweickert (Glen Allen, Va./John Randolph Tucker) both brought home a run, while
Jake Stotsky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) collected two hits and stole a base.
Â
Holding down the fort in the first contest was
Conor Deasy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic). The junior right-hander notched his second consecutive seven-inning complete game and first shutout of the season. He racked up 10 strikeouts, scattering four hits, and walking none. In his career, Deasy now has six complete games and three shutouts.
In the nightcap, Allegheny received another eye-opening game from a first-year;
Brady Nolin (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) smacked two homers, good for three RBI on the day. Budnar garnered two more hits and swiped his third base of the series. Bryant-Dawson also provided two hits, and he along with Kosbie both contributed an RBI. Additionally, Budnar, Stotsky and Bryant-Dawson all had a run scored.
Â
On the pitching side of game two,
Daniel Morgano (Allison Park, Pa./Vincentian Academy) went 5.1 innings and struck out five batters.
Â
Allegheny will play its home opener against John Carroll on Tuesday, March 15 at 3 p.m.
