MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny women's basketball team picked up a 57-34 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) win Tuesday night (Feb. 7) against Wooster at Mullen Arena.
Alexis Caldwell (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) led the Gators with 13 points and a career-high 21 rebounds. Her rebounding total helped the Gators hold a 58-33 lead in the category. Caldwell also provided a pair of blocks.
Chloe Rabold (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) contributed nine points and a team-high four assists.
Branygan Bianchin (Wexford, Pa./North Catholic) added seven points.
Jenna Manke (Freeport, Pa./Freeport) had six points and was second on the team with eight rebounds.
Emily Lauer (Knox, Pa./Keystone) and
Breanna Warner (Hopewell, Pa./Sewickley Academy) tallied six points each.
The Gators got off to a fast start, opening the game in a 10-0 run, leading to a Wooster timeout. Following the timeout, the Gators added five more before the Fighting Scots got on the board with a three, as Allegheny took a 17-5 lead into the second.
Allegheny maintained its lead in the second quarter and came on late in the half to extend the margin to 27-8.
The teams kept pace with each other in the third quarter, as Allegheny kept a 46-28 lead heading into the final frame.
The fourth quarter was low scoring, but the Gators outpaced the Fighting Scots 11-6 to seal the conference win.
Allegheny is back in action Saturday (Feb. 12) when it plays host to Penn State Shenango. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 pm.
