Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Gators race past BW 14-7, give Pehnke first career victory

BEREA, Ohio – The Allegheny women's lacrosse team earned a 14-7 nonconference win on the road at Baldwin Wallace to open the 2022 campaign and give first-year leader Patty Pehnke her inaugural career head coaching victory.

The Gators sprinted out to a 5-0 lead in the game's first 6:43, getting goals from five different players along the way. Liz Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) recorded three points during the run, notching the first goal and then helping facilitate two others. Four of the next five goals came from Yellow Jackets as play entered the second quarter, but Allegheny scored three goals in the final 3:48 of the first half to take a 9-3 lead into intermission. Senna Perelman (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) figured into all three of those tallies, assisting on the first and then scoring the final two to finish the first 30 minutes of play with a hat trick.

The second half saw Emily Herrold (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) register her third and fourth goals of the match, Dolan and Lauren Petrarca (Simi Valley, Calif./Royal) add their second each and Perelman contribute her fourth to close out the Allegheny scoring with a player-up goal with under two minutes to go.

Perelman's eight shots tied for the game lead. Herrold added four and four different Gators each posted three shots. Grace Baginski (Lakeville, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) accounted for three points on the evening with a goal and two helpers. Dolan tied for the team lead with three ground balls and three caused turnovers, with Mary Allen (Victor, N.Y./Victor) matching Dolan on ground balls and Ashley Amato (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) equaling Dolan in caused turnovers.

Sarah Thorman (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) played all six minutes in cage, making 11 saves (a career high) and earning her first collegiate victory.

Allegheny will continue its three-game road start to the season when it returns to Ohio on Wednesday, March 2, this time heading to University Heights and John Carroll for a 7 p.m. start.
