Men's Basketball Storms past Fredonia State in Home Opener

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's basketball team took down Fredonia State, 91-53, in a non-conference match during the 2022-23 season opener on Tuesday night at James H. Mullen Arena inside the David V. Wise Center.

Luke Barker (New Castle, Pa./Struthers (Ohio)) exploded with a 26-point first half, accounting for nearly half of the points for the Gators (1-0). He cashed in on six of his seven 3-pointers, a game-high. Barker led the charge as Allegheny went 10-for-21 behind the perimeter as a team. Charlie Waid (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) started for the first time in his collegiate career and sank in a pair of threes. Preston Turk (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) and Ryan Lang (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) also knocked in shots from behind the arc aduring the opening 20 minutes, as the Gators ended the first half ahead of the Blue Devils (0-1), 54-28.

Caden Hinckley (Boise, Idaho/Mount Lebanon (Pa.)) shined in the second half by tallying 18 points. He completed a double-double with 26 points and a team-leading 12 rebounds. Hinckley filled out the stat sheet by providing five steals and four blocks throughout the contest.

KC Johns (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) racked up seven of his nine points in the final 20 minutes of regulation. First-year guard Isaiah Portis (Medina, Ohio/Norwayne) collected his first collegiate bucket in the second half, as the entire 14-man roster saw time on the court.

The Gators outscored the Blue Devils, 40-25, en route to the lopsided victory.
