Gators top Barons for 80-56 PAC victory

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Allegheny men's basketball team picked up an 80-56 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory on the road at Franciscan Saturday (Nov. 19).
 
The teams were even throughout the opening 10 minutes of the contest. Leading 23-22 with eight minutes remaining in the half, the Gators went on a 7-1 run, capped off by an Andre Wilder (Beaver Falls, Pa./Lincoln Park) three pointer. Minutes later, the advantage grew to 33-25 off an Isaiah Portis (Medina, Ohio/Norwayne) corner three, leading to a Franciscan timeout. With a 42-35 lead late, the Gators finished the half on a 7-0 run, once again capped off by a Wilder three, to take a 49-35 advantage into halftime.
 
The Barons would cut the lead down to six, 51-45, five minutes into the second half. However, the Gators would quickly push the lead back up to double-digits with four quick points. After that, the lead never dipped below ten points again the Gators' defense held tough throughout the remainder of the game. The Allegheny offense continued to grow their advantage as a three pointer by Ryan Lang (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) in the final 30 seconds cemented the PAC victory and gave the Gators their biggest lead of the afternoon.
 
Inside the Box
  • Caden Hinckley (Boise, Idaho/Mount Lebanon (Pa.)) led Allegheny with a double-double, tallying 22 points and 11 rebounds. He also had a season-high five blocks.
  • Luke Barker (New Castle, Pa./Struthers (Ohio)) was just behind Hinckley with 17 points and seven rebounds.
  • Wilder also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Lang finished with a season-high 14 points and nine rebounds.
  • Preston Turk (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) totaled seven points and a team leading four assists.
  • For the game, the Gators shot 44.6% (29-of-65) from the floor with 11 made three pointers. They also converted 11-of-13 free-throw attempts (84.6%).
  • The Gators owned a 45-31 rebounding advantage as their 15 offensive rebounds produced 17 second chance points.
 
News and Notes
  • The PAC win was the first for the Gators since rejoining the conference this season.
  • This marked the first game between the two teams.
