UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Allegheny women's basketball team was unable to overcome an early lead by 17th-ranked St. John Fisher as they dropped their final game at the John Carroll Tip-Off Tournament, 70-48.
St. John Fisher entered the season ranked 17th in both the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and D3hoops.com polls.
The Cardinals got out to a quick start, outpacing the Gators 20-9 in the opening ten minutes. In the second quarter, the Gators produced 12 points but trailed 39-21 at the half.
Emily Lauer (Knox, Pa./Keystone) led the Gators with five points in the opening half while
Sarah Santicola (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) had four. Allegheny owned a 19-15 rebounding edge in the half.
St. John Fisher added to their lead in the third quarter as they limited the Gator offense to take a 60-28 lead into the final frame. The fourth quarter, though, belonged to the Gators. They had their highest offensive production of the afternoon with 18 points while holding the Cardinals offense to just 10 points.
Inside the Box
- Santicola led the Gators with 13 points while also recording six rebounds, three steals and a block.
- Lauer was also in double-digits for the third straight game, tallying 11 points in addition to six rebounds.
- Kate Leach (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) totaled team-highs with four blocks and four steals while scoring five points and grabbing six rebounds.
- Jess Bickart (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) led the Gators with eight rebounds and three assists.
- The Gators converted 6-of-8 free throw attempts.
- Allegheny outrebounded St. John Fisher 42-36.
