WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- With a 9-0 victory over Waynesburg University on Friday afternoon, the Allegheny College women's tennis team completed the 2022 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) schedule with an unblemished 8-0 conference record.
The preseason favorite to win the PAC, the Gators (12-0, 8-0 PAC) had already locked up the conference's regular-season title and secured home-court advantage in the upcoming PAC Championships. Seven of Allegheny's eight conference wins resulted in a shutout victory, with AC's only losses coming against the two-time defending champions from Franciscan University on September 14.
In another impressive display of team's top-to-bottom strength, the Gators rolled the Yellow Jackets (1-7, 0-6Â PAC) and lost only three games despite playing without
Ella Swan (Nashville, Tenn./Hume-Fogg Academic) or
Katherine Marks (Argyle, Texas/Liberty Christian) in the lineup.
Sabrina Rodriguez (Kissimmee, Fla./Professional and Technical) won her first-ever match at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Rookie of the Year candidate,
Maria Lounder (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon Area), jumped from her typical fifth spot to sweep her No. 2Â singles match, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore
Sophia Mita (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) and first-year
Athena Drollas (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) were victorious at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively, as the pair picked up their first singles wins of the fall season.
