GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team fell in a five set match (23-25, 13-25, 25-21, 27-25, 15-8) to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Thiel in their regular season finale Saturday (Oct. 29).
Finishing the season at 7-3 in PAC play, the Gators will be the third seed in the upcoming PAC Championships.
The teams went back-and-forth in the opening set with neither team able to establish control. The Gators owned a 21-18 lead late in the set but Thiel brought it within one at 22-21. Allegheny won the ensuing two points to earn a set point. The Tomcats would fight off a pair of set points but the Gators won it 25-23 on an error.
Tied at five in the second set, the Gators rattled off a 5-0 run to gain the lead. They never looked back after that as they led by as much as eight, taking the second set 25-13.
Once again, the teams were evenly matched throughout the majority of the third set. Thiel would put together a 5-0 to take a 22-19 lead. The Tomcats were able to hold their lead, taking the third set 25-21.
Thiel jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the fourth set. The Gators would bring it back to a one point set at 17-16. The Thiel lead grew again, but Allegheny went on a 4-0 run to tie it at 23. The teams traded points until they were tied at 25. Thiel then won two straight points to force a fifth set.
After trading points to start the final set, Thiel went on a 7-0 run to take control. The Tomcats captured the final set 15-8 to win the match.

India McCruter (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson), Cheyenne Wilson (Chico, Calif./Pleasant Valley) and Kendall Crum (Chattanooga, Tenn./Girls Preparatory) all had 10 kills apiece.

Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) and Emma Chambers (Stoutsville, Ohio/Amanda Clearcreek) had nine kills each.

Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) tallied 27 assists while Leah Ungashick (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) had 17.

Wilson led the team with 25 digs.

Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) had 20 digs, Cetta Panza (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) had 13 and Ungashick had 10.

McCruter totaled eight blocks while Chambers had six and Javes had five.
