WOOSTER, Ohio -- Allegheny College field hockey's fight for its first-ever postseason appearance received a major boost on Wednesday, as the Gators defeated the College of Wooster in a must-win North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) matchup by a 3-2 final score.
With the victory, the Gators (13-4, 4-3 NCAC) move into fourth place in the NCAC standings with one game remaining before the four-team NCAC Championship Tournament.
Allegheny and Wooster (6-12, 1-6 NCAC) exchanged blows in a back-and-forth battle, but the Gators never trailed. The Gators needed only five-and-a-half minutes to find the back of the cage, as
Emily Robles (Burlington Township, N.J./Burlington Township) put AC up 1-0 in the sixth minute. The Fighting Scots managed to even the score at 1-all before the end of the first quarter.
Following a scoreless second quarter, the two sides combined for three goals in the third. Only 33 seconds after
Kelsey Anderson (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) gave the Gators a 2-1 lead, Lizzie Hardy leveled the score at 2-all. In the 41st minute,
Molly Miller (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) finished a short corner with the go-ahead and eventual game-winning marker.
