Field Hockey Drops Home Game to Ohio Wesleyan

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College field hockey team fell in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action at home to Ohio Wesleyan University, 3-0, Saturday (Oct. 22).

Ohio Wesleyan scored midway through the first quarter off a penalty corner, striking from the top of the formation. The score stayed that way until midway through the second quarter. The Battling Bishops scored their second goal off a tough angle shot along the goal line. 

The Gators picked up the pressure in the third quarter, earning six penalty corners and outshooting the Battling Bishops, 7-3. However, Allegheny was unable to break through for a goal.

Early in the fourth quarter, Ohio Wesleyan increased their lead to three, scoring their second goal off a penalty corner. The Allegheny offense continued to battle but was unable to get on the scoreboard as they fell in NCAC play.

  • Ohio Wesleyan scored at the 8:56 mark of the first quarter, the 10:25 mark of the second quarter, and the 13:53 mark of the third quarter.
  • Jenna Cassani (Belgrade, Maine/Messalonskee) made a defensive save.
  • Hallie Reiger (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) made 10 stops in net.
  • Ohio Wesleyan had a 17-to-9 advantage on shots, but the Gators led in penalty corners, 8-to-4.
  • Ella O'Connor (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) led the Gators with three shots.
  • Becca Winton (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) and Emily Robles (Burlington Township, N.J./Burlington Township) had two shots apiece.
News and Notes
  • Allegheny's NCAC record is now .500 at 3-3, which is good enough for fourth place in the conference standings.
  • The Gators and Battling Bishops split their home-and-home series in 2022, with each team earning a victory on the road.
