MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team celebrated senior night with a 3-0 sweep (25-16, 25-19, 25-20) against Saint Vincent Friday (Oct. 21) in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.
Before the start of the match, the Gators honored their five seniors:
Grace Camarata (Falconer, N.Y./Falconer Central),
Cheyenne Wilson (Chico, Calif./Pleasant Valley),
Kendall Crum (Chattanooga, Tenn./Girls Preparatory),
Cetta Panza (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) and student assistant
Sophia Sunseri (Hopewell, Pa./Quigley Catholic).
The Bearcats jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the opening set. After a timeout, the Gators rebounded with a 10-2 run, gaining an 11-8 advantage. After a Saint Vincent timeout, the Gators continued to control the flow of the game as the lead grew to 20-12. The set ended on a block by
Mila Anderson (San Diego, Calif./Mission Bay) and
Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School), 25-16.
The teams were evenly matched in the early stages of the second set. A 3-0 Allegheny run pushed them in front 15-11 midway through. After a timeout by the Bearcats, the Gators rattled off a 6-2 run, growing the lead to 21-13. Leading 24-19, a Bearcat attack error gave Allegheny a 2-0 match lead.
The Gators jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the third set. The Bearcats fought back, going on a 6-0 run. The Gators would tie the match at 12 apiece as the teams continued the battle back-and-forth. Saint Vincent owned an 18-16 lead, but the Gators won three straight points, including a kill by
Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) as they took the lead 19-18. The lead held as the Gators won the final set 25-20.
Inside the Box
- Wilson led the Gators with 10 kills alongside six digs.
- Emma Chambers (Stoutsville, Ohio/Amanda Clearcreek) had nine kills while Crum and Javes had eight apiece.
- Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) had 17 assists while Leah Ungashick (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) had 14.
- Ungashick also had three aces.
- Diaz led the team with 28 digs.
- Panza finished with eight digs.

- The win moves the Gators to 17-8 overall and 7-0 in PAC action.
- The Gators currently sit in first place in the PAC.
- Allegheny's win streak reached 10 games, their longest streak since 1994.
