MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Sunday's matinee at the Robertson Athletic Complex was a brief one, as the undefeated Allegheny College women's tennis team cruised to a near-perfect 9-0 victory over the visiting Fredonia State Blue Devils.
Eight of the nine matches played featured zeros on the visitor's side of the scoreboard, as the Gators (10-0) won 96 of the 98 games played against Fredonia State (0-9). Allegheny, the No. 1 team in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) standings, was able to accomplish such a lopsided win despite shaking up the lineup with new faces and a few regulars playing at higher positions.
Allison Riley (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg), who played second doubles with
Taylor Hayes (Geneva, Ill./Geneva Community), and
Tiaralei Cade (Lakenheath, England/Lakenheath American), who played third doubles with
Ella Swan (Nashville, Tenn./Hume-Fogg Academic), each won their first doubles matches of the season against the Blue Devils.
In singles action,
Jean-Arlette Legrand (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville School) moved up to No. 1 for the first time in her career and beat Fredonia's Caitlin Snyder, 6-1, 6-1. Rounding out the Allegheny lineup at sixth singles was
Rebecca McIntosh (Eighty Four, Pa./Ringgold), who recorded her second victory of the year over T'Kaia Parker, 6-0, 6-0.
