Gators top Titans for ninth straight win

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team's winning streak reached nine games as they defeated Westminster in four sets (25-13, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21) Wednesday night (Oct. 19) on the road in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.

The Gators controlled the momentum throughout the opening set. After Westminster scored the first two points, Allegheny went on a 4-0 run to take the lead. After that run, they never looked back and led the Titans by as much as 14, winning the first set 25-13.

The momentum from the first set carried over to the second as the Gators gained an early 6-1 advantage. The Titans fought back, and eventually gained a lead at 16-15. The Gators responded with a 9-1 run, regaining the lead. A kill by Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) ended the set at 25-20 as the Gators took a two set lead.

The Titans owned an early lead in the third set, but the Gators would tie it at seven apiece. The teams went back-and-forth, but Westminster pulled ahead, 17-14. The Gators bounced back to tie the set at 23, though the Titans won the next two points to take the match to four sets.

Similar to the third set, Westminster gained the lead early, 11-6. A 6-1 Allegheny run tied the set at 12. The lead changed hands several times before a 4-0 run gave the Gators a 23-19 advantage. Leading 24-21, Mila Anderson (San Diego, Calif./Mission Bay) sealed the win with a kill.
