LATROBE, Pa. -- Julieta Schworm (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) scored Allegheny College's only goal in a 1-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) draw on the road Wednesday afternoon against Saint Vincent College.
Schworm, a third-year forward from Ohio, gave the Gators a one-goal lead in the 67th minute. The play began with a free kick from
Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) on the left side of the field.
Abby Waryanka (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) got the first touch near the back post, before Schworm headed the ball in to take the lead.
The play was nearly identical to what happened to Allegheny (3-8-4, 2-4-2 PAC) in the 51st minute. Miller took a free kick from the same place on the left-wing side that was barely pushed up and off the crossbar by Saint Vincent (6-5-3, 2-3-3 PAC) goalie Madison Arnold. Schworm was in a perfect position to finish with a goal as the ball came down, but her touch went off the crossbar and rolled out of play just beyond the right post.
Saved by Allegheny's unfortunate bounce, the Bearcats were able to play for the tie, as the hosts scored with less then seven minutes remaining in regulation.
