Gators defeat Bethany for eighth straight win

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team captured their eighth straight win and improved to 5-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) as they defeated Bethany 3-1 (19-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-21) at home Saturday (Oct. 15).

Kendall Crum (Chattanooga, Tenn./Girls Preparatory) led the Gators with 17 kills on 27 attacks for a .630 attack percentage. That mark is the second highest in program history for a four set match, behind only Lindsey Tupman's .690 percentage against Kenyon in 2004.

Bethany gained an early lead in the opening set. The lead grew to as much as seven, but the Gators rallied late, bringing the score to 23-19. However, Bethany scored the final two points after a timeout to take the first set 25-19.

The Gators took control early in the second set, jumping out to a 6-2 lead. Bethany would tie it at nine, but the Gators went on a 6-2 run again, moving ahead 15-11. The Gators rode that lead the rest of the way, tying the match with a 25-20 set win.

Once again, the Gators grew a lead early in the third set. However, Bethany fought back to bring the set within one, 11-10.  After a timeout, Bethany took a 12-11 lead, but a 3-0 run by Allegheny put them back in front. The Bison made the set close late, but the Gators won the set 25-20.

The teams were even in the early portions of the fourth set, but a 3-0 run gave Allegheny a 12-8 lead. The Gator advantage grew to as much as nine, 20-11, but Bison rallied to bring the score to 22-19. Leading 24-21, India McCruter (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) sealed the win with a kill.
