MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny saw a 2-0 lead erased in its 2021 home opener at the Robertson Blue Turf, a 3-2 nonconference defeat against Mount Union.
Junior
Natasha Rosa (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) registered her first career goal in the 19th minute to give the Gators a 1-0 lead. The score was assisted by rookie Taylor McKindrey (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic), the first point of her career.
The 1-0 margin held up as the score at halftime. Under 10 minutes into the second half,
Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) doubled the advantage when she blasted a free kick from approximately 25 yards out on goal and the ball deflected off the Mount Union keeper's hands and into the upper left corner of the cage for her first collegiate tally. The Purple Raiders, however, would score the final three markers of the contest in the 62nd, 72nd and 81st minutes to escape with the victory.
Mount Union held a slim, 17-13, lead on total shots, as Rosa, Miller and
Julieta Schworm (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) each tied with the team lead at three shots.
Kaitlynn Rees (Anaheim, Calif./Fullerton Union) kept a clean sheet in the first 45 minutes.
Kari May (Erie, Pa./McDowell) suffered the loss despite making five saves in the second half.
Allegheny returns to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 11 when it hosts John Carroll in a nonconference match that is set to begin on the Robertson Blue Turf on 4 p.m.
