LATROBE, Pa. -- The Allegheny volleyball team competed Friday (Sept. 3) on day one of the Saint Vincent Bearcat Challenge.
Allegheny started the event with a 3-0 sweep of Waynesburg before falling to Westminster 3-0.
The Gators conclude play at the Bearcat open Saturday (Sept. 4) against Pitt-Greensburg.
Allegheny 3, Waynesburg 0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-22)
The Gators collected their first win of the 2021 season in the opening match against Waynesburg.
Emma Chambers (Stoutsville, Ohio/Amanda Clearcreek) led Allegheny with a match-high 13 kills.
Kendall Crum (Chattanooga, Tenn./Girls Preparatory) finished with nine kills while
Cheyenne Wilson (Chico, Calif./Pleasant Valley) had eight.
India McCruter (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) had seven kills to go alongside five blocks.
Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) had three aces.
Olivia D'Andrea (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Serra Catholic) and
Meagan Robare (Moon Township. Pa./Moon Area) had 13 assists apiece.
Defensively,
Taylor Besch (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) led the team with 14 digs. D'Andrea and Wilson also finished in double digits with 11 apiece.
Westminster 3, Allegheny 0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-13)
Once again, Chambers led the Gators with 10 kills. Wilson was second on the team with nine. D'Andrea had 13 assists. Defensively, Besch had 16 digs to lead Allegheny, while Wilson had nine.
