WASHINGTON, Pa. -- A pair of goals by
Bella Cowen (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Day School) pushed the Allegheny field hockey team past Washington and Jefferson, 2-1, on the road Thursday (Sept. 23).
Â
The win brings the Gators to 2-3 on the season.
Â
After a scoreless first half, the Presidents scored early in the third quarter off of a corner attempt. The W&J lead was short lived as Cowen provided the response for the Gators four minutes later off an assist from
Hannah Sharp (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington). Cowen struck again in the waning seconds of the third quarter, this time off a pass from
Hana Miller (Willards, Md./Worcester Preparatory School) to give the Gators a 2-1 lead.
Â
The Gator defense held strong in the fourth quarter, as
Hallie Reiger (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) turned away a pair of shots as Allegheny closed out the game.
Â
The Presidents had a slight 12-9 edge in total shots, though both teams had an equal six on target. Cowen,
Kelsey Anderson (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) and
Ella O'Connor (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) all had three shots.
Â
Reiger made four saves to pick up the win in net.
Â
The Gators are back in Meadville on Saturday (Sept. 25) morning at 11 a.m. as they host Wittenberg in a nonconference game.
