GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- The Allegheny field hockey team battled DePauw into overtime, but the Tigers were able to score in the extra session as the Gators fell 2-1 in nonconference action.
The Tigers scored the golden goal three-and-a-half minutes into overtime.
After nearly three quarters of scoreless play, the Gators took the lead as
Bella Cowen (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Day School) finished off of a pass from
Ella O'Connor (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) with three minutes remaining in the third period. The lead was short lived, as five minutes later, and two minutes into the fourth quarter, the Tigers put a rebound back in the net to tie it at 1-1, eventually forcing the extra period.
Hallie Reiger (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady) made 10 stops, including six between the fourth quarter and overtime.
Apurva Kannu (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley) had a pair of defensive saves.
Allegheny will travel to Washington & Jefferson for a nonconference match at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26.
