SANDUSKY, Ohio -- After earning a 3-0 victory on Friday night, Allegheny wrapped up play at the Battle at the Point with a pair of sweeps against Kalamazoo (Mich.) and Olivet (Mich.).
The matches were part of the two-day volleyball challenge between the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) and the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), hosted at the Cedar Point Sports Center. In Saturday's opener against Kalamazoo, the Gators won 25-16, 25-22, 25-19, before securing the blanking over Olivet by counts of 25-17, 26-24, 25-17.
In the first match,
Cheyenne Wilson (Chico, Calif./Pleasant Valley) and
Emma Chambers (Stoutsville, Ohio/Amanda Clearcreek) led the Blue & Gold with eight kills apiece.
India McCruter (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) was third with six kills in the win over Kalamazoo. Both
Olivia D'Andrea (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) and
Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) reached double figures in assists, with 16 and 10, respectively. Robare (three) and
Taylor Besch (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) (two) combined for five of Allegheny's seven service aces.
Defensively, the Gators had a strong day at the net, with McCruter posting six blocks, Chambers and Wilson registering four blocks and
Mila Anderson (San Diego, Calif./Mission Bay) and
Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) each tallying three blocks. Besch led all players with 17 digs.
In the night cap, Chambers paced the match with 11 kills, while
Kendall Crum (Chattanooga, Tenn./Girls Preparatory) had seven kills and Wilson and Anderson each notched six kills. D'Andrea edged Robare with 15 assists to 12 helpers. Wilson and
Cetta Panza (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) both contributed a pair of Allegheny's seven service aces.
For the defense, Javes had three blocks, and McCruter and Anderson each turned away a pair of points. Robare finished with a double-double, adding 11 digs to her 12 assists. D'Andrea and Besch were second with nine digs each, while Wilson and Panza both recorded eight digs.
Allegheny returns to the court on Wednesday, Sept. 15 when it travels to Pitt-Bradford for a 7 p.m. nonconference tilt.
