GAMBIER, Ohio -- Allegheny earned two North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) road wins in a doubleheader at Kenyon by scores of 2-1 and 18-16.
Kelly Lafferty (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River) and
Hayley Behr (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) led Allegheny's offense in the first game with two hits each.
Paige Ziggas (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) accounted for an RBI by virtue of a single to right field that scored Behr in the top of the sixth inning for the game's first run.
Tori Vradenburgh (Pasadena, Calif./San Marino) earned her first win of the 2021 campaign in the pitcher's circle. In a complete game effort, she struck out a season-high 11 batters, surrendered six hits and only allowed one run to score.
Trailing 6-4, the Gators put up a 10-run fourth inning to power their game two win. Behr and Lafferty led the charge with four hits each. Two of Lafferty's hits went for doubles, she also drove in and scored a team-high four runs.
Isabelle Wakefield (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) and
Joplin Osgood (Coudersport, Pa./Coudersport) notched three RBIs a piece.
Wakefield, Ziggas,
Kyleigh Cason (Virginia Beach, Va./Floyd E Kellam),
Cameron Long (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) and
Kaylin Tang (Vienna, Va./South Lakes) all recorded multi-hit performances in the night cap. Cason launched the second home run of her career over the center field fence in the top of the second that got the scoring started for the Gators.
Ashley Vitiello (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) picked up her first win of the season pitching for Allegheny in game two. Vradenburg shut the door in relief to preserve the sweep.
The two teams will square off again for another NCAC doubleheader on Sunday as Kenyon makes the trip to Meadville. First pitch from the Robertson Athletic Complex is scheduled for 1 p.m.
