GRANVILLE, Ohio -- In a nonconference women's lacrosse match between two North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) schools, No. 10-ranked Denison earned an 18-6 win over Allegheny.
It was the Gators who came out of the gate firing on all cylinders, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first 6:24 of action.
Evi Malagise (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) scored a pair of free-position goals less than a minute apart after
Senna Perelman (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) opened up the scoring 3:04 into play with a free-position goal of her own.
For the game, Malagise and Perelman both notched hat tricks, finishing with three goals apiece. Perelman and
Gretchen Barbera (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) each snagged three ground balls to lead the team, while Malagise, Perelman,
Mary Allen (Victor, N.Y./Victor) and
Sybi Gerhart (Denver, Pa./Cocalico) all caused a pair of turnovers. Allen also had four draw controls, tops for the Blue & Gold.
Fiona Barrett (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) made nine saves in the first 32:24 of play, while
Sarah Thorman (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) collected a pair of saves the rest of the way.
The loss drops Allegheny to 2-4 overall this year entering its final NCAC series of the season when the Gators take on Kenyon this coming week. The first meeting is set for Tuesday, April 20 at the Blue Turf in Meadville at 5 p.m. Prior to the game, Allegheny will recognize its senior members.
