Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Lawler lifts Gators over Yeowomen in overtime

OBERLIN, Ohio -- The Allegheny women's lacrosse team battled to a 12-11 overtime win over Oberlin on Tuesday.

In the overtime period, Brenna Lawler (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) rose to the occasion and capitalized on a late free position attempt, securing the road win for the Gators.

Oberlin tied the game at 11 with just over two minutes left in regulation to force extra time.

After the Yeowomen got the first goal of the game, Senna Perelman (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) and Liz Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) combined for the game's next three goals to establish a 3-1 Gator lead.

Two more goals by Perelman and a late tally by Emily Herrold (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) secured a 6-5 halftime Allegheny advantage.

After an Evi Malagise (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) goal doubled the Gator lead, Oberlin accounted for three of the next four goals to tie the game at 8-8 with just over 20 minutes remaining. The Yeowomen answered an unassisted Lawler goal with two unanswered goals to take a 10-9 lead with approximately 10:36 remaining. Lawler and Malagise responded with two goals just seven seconds apart to take an 11-10 lead with 6:01 left in regulation.

Perelman led the Allegheny offense with four goals and an assist for a total of five points. She also scooped up a team-best four ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.

Lawler netted a hat trick and caused a turnover in the win. Dolan and Malagise chipped in with multi-goal games each.

Allegheny's next game is scheduled for Saturday, April 17. The nonconference road contest at Denison is slated for a 1 pm start.
