MEADVILLE, Pa. -- In its return to action for the first time since March 7, 2020, the Allegheny softball team opened the 2021 season with a doubleheader against Penn State Behrend.
Â
After more than a year between games due to COVID-19 cutting short the 2020 season and pushing back the start of the 2021 campaign, the Gators dropped both games of the doubleheader, falling 10-5 in game one and 11-3 in game two.Â
Â
In game one,
Joplin Osgood (Coudersport, Pa./Coudersport) went 3-for-4 with two doubles and led the team with three runs scored.
Hayley Behr (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) drove in two runs.
Paige Ziggas (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) also recorded an RBI.Â
Â
In game two, Behr hit a three-run home run over the left field wall. Â
Â
Allegheny will return to action on Wednesday, March 31 to open up North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play against Kenyon. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
