DELAWARE, Ohio – The Allegheny women's basketball team closed out the 2021 portion of its schedule with a 71-47 loss on the road at Ohio Wesleyan in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) action Monday (Dec. 20) afternoon.
Three Gators reached double figures in the game, as
Chloe Rabold (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) and
Emily Lauer (Knox, Pa./Keystone) led the team with 11 points apiece, while
Branygan Bianchin (Wexford, Pa./North Catholic) added 10 points. Rabold made 3-of-5 shots from beyond-the-arc and added four rebounds, the same rebounding total as Lauer.
Alexis Caldwell (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) finished the game with seven rebounds and six assists.
Sydney Cook (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton) had three steals to tie for the team-high with Caldwell and Rabold.
The Gators owned an early advantage in the contest, but a 6-0 Ohio Wesleyan run put it in front 9-4. The teams exchanged baskets the rest of the way, but a late Battling Bishops three-pointer put them in front 18-8 after the first quarter. The momentum carried over to the next quarter as the lead grew for Ohio Wesleyan to 39-21 at halftime.
Allegheny was unable to overcome the first half deficit in the second half as the Battling Bishops sealed the conference win.
The Gators return to action on Saturday, January 8 when they host No. 9 DePauw. Tip-off is set for 1 pm.
