DELAWARE, Ohio – The Allegheny men's basketball team fell on the road in North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) play at Ohio Wesleyan, 79-70, Friday (Dec. 17).
Brian Roberts, Jr. (Copley, Ohio/Copley) led the Gators offense with 22 points and five assists. He also shared the team-high with seven rebounds.
Caden Hinckley (Boise, Idaho/Mt. Lebanon (Pa.)) scored 14 points, including going three-of-three on three pointers. He also blocked a career-high six shots and grabbed seven rebounds.
Andre Wilder (Beaver Falls, Pa./Lincoln Park) finished with eight points and six rebounds.
Jordan Greynolds (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton) tallied seven points and four rebounds.
Josh Ratesic (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) also shared the team lead with seven rebounds.
Ohio Wesleyan got out to a quick lead early in the first. The Gators kept it close throughout the half, pulling within one point at 31-30 with six minutes to play after a Roberts, Jr. three. The contest remained close the rest of the half. In the final minute of play,
Preston Turk (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) tied the game at 39-39 with a layup as the teams stayed deadlocked at the half.
Allegheny started the second half on a 5-0 run to take their first lead of the game. The Battling Bishops fought back, tying the game at 50. After exchanging baskets, Ohio Wesleyan went on a 10-3 run to take a 62-55 lead with nine minutes to play. A Roberts, Jr. basket brought that lead back down to two, 62-60, minutes later. However, the deficit grew to as much as nine down the stretch as Ohio Wesleyan sealed the conference win.
The Gators are back in action Dec. 31 when they play host to Chatham in nonconference action. Tip-off is set for 2 pm.
