MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny held off a late second half push by visiting Saint Vincent to secure an 85-77 win in the 2021-22 home opener and improve to 2-0.
The Gators led by 16 at halftime on assistant coach
Greg Bean's birthday, putting up 49 points in the opening 20 minutes (49-33). That half saw the home team knock down nine three-pointers (9-of-16, 56.3 percent) and shoot 52.6 percent (20-for-38) from the field.
Brian Roberts, Jr. (Copley, Ohio/Copley) led the way for the Gators with 26 points.
Jordan Greynolds (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton) put together a 16-point, 11-rebound game.
Luke Barker (New Castle, Pa./Struthers (Ohio)) also finished in double-digits with 11 points.
Caden Hinckley (Bosie, Idaho/Mount Lebanon (Pa.)) had eight points to go with 10 rebounds.
Preston Turk (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) contributed six points while
Andre Wilder (Beaver Falls, Pa./Lincoln Park) had five points and two blocks.
The Gators outrebounded the Bearcats 46-42. For the game, Allegheny shot 40.6 percent from the floor (28-69) and made 13 three-pointers.
The Blue & Gold remain home for the next two games, beginning with an 8 p.m. nonconference tipoff against Penn State Behrend on Wednesday, Nov. 17.
