BETHANY, W. Va. -- Allegheny battled through for a four-set victory in nonconference action at Bethany, toppling the host Bison, 3-1 (25-19, 25-18, 21-25, 28-26).
Cheyenne Wilson (Chico, Calif./Pleasant Valley) had a career-high 18 kills to lead three Gators in double figures. The 18 kills were the most by a Gator since Bailey Gawley recorded 20 kills in a 3-2 win over Carnegie Mellon on Nov. 1, 2014.
Emma Chambers (Stoutsville, Ohio/Amanda Clearcreek) and
Kendall Crum (Chattanooga, Tenn./Girls Preparatory) were also in double figures, tallying 12 and 11 kills, respectively. The tandem of
Olivia D'Andrea (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) and
Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) combined for 45 assists on the evening, helping Allegheny to hit .213 as a team.
Kate Christie (Schenectady, N.Y./Niskayuna) had three of the Gators' seven service aces.
Four from the Blue & Gold finished with double-doubles as Wilson added 13 digs and D'Andrea had 12. Pacing the team in digs was
Taylor Besch (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) with 18, while Christie also ended up in double figures at 12 digs.
Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) had a match-best five blocks (two solo), while
India McCruter (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) collected three blocks (one solo) of her own.
With 14 wins, the Gators have now recorded the most victories in a single season since 2015's squad collected 18 triumphs.
Allegheny remains in nonconference competition when it hosts Penn State Behrend for a 7 p.m. match at Mullen Arena on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
